Celebrating Historic Investment in Cultural Equity and Solidarity

CCC is excited to be included the California State Legislature's Asian Pacific Islander (API) equity budget. This historic investment in the community supports a bold movement for cultural equity and solidarity through the arts, empowering art and artists for a more just and inclusive future. We thank the leadership of Senator Scott Wiener for his advocacy for AAPI arts.

The $1 million in the state funding will support “We the Future,” a program for AAPI artists and artists working to empower AAPI voices and communities. “We the Future” is an anti-racist arts initiative to empower diverse communities, champion artists as integral to social justice work, and envision a more just and equitable future in our city, state and beyond.

"All racism and hate is unacceptable, and this year, we’ve seen a horrific rise in anti-AAPI hate crimes,” said Senator Scott Wiener. “We need to fight this hate and bigotry on all fronts, and that means investing in AAPI artists and those working to end anti-AAPI hate."

“This is a historic investment for cultural equity. This support will empower our communities to tell our own narrative and how we can build a new future,” says Jenny Leung, Executive Director of the Chinese Culture Center. “We thank the tremendous leadership of Senator Scott Wiener for being a champion for the arts and our communities.”
